Gilles van der Meij worked 2007 -2013 at Germanischer Lloyd as class marine surveyor with the specialization of engine room, electrical installations, Marpol and new components. During this time he learned a lot about interpretations of regulations. As he was stationed in Rotterdam, he surveyed lots of ships both in service, during repairs and in dry docks.
Before the 6 years as marine surveyor, he sailed 17 years at P&O Nedlloyd. Started in 1987 and sailed at chemical tankers, general purpose ships and the panamax container ships. He holds the certificates as master unlimited and chief engineer unlimited
He was born and grown up in the Netherlands and lived between his 48th and 51st year in Brunei.
At 50, he re-visited high school for front-end webdeveloper and works now in this area
